Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Ratings & Reviews
- James SaenzMay 13, 2025rebecca ferguson single-handedly increased the quality of this franchise by simply being in it. this movie is pure gas from the first scene. mcq has the sauce, this really tactile sense of filmmaking. the motorcycle chase sequence feels so visceral. ethan’s dedication to his friends is borderline obsessive. the hand to hand combat’s shot so exhilaratingly, each set piece brilliantly laid out and explored throughout the action, an overwhelmingly satisfying experience with such a resounding score. this is an excellent action movie - emblematic of this series’ evolution into a high quality action adventure series - though it’s not the kind of spy thriller i love, like the original 90s film. p.s. it’s not lost on me that ilsa is the new female lead and that they go to casablanca. that was a choice made specifically to appeal to my sensibilities.

- Darf NaderJune 11, 2025When I think about the first MI, it seems quaint in comparison to this. I restarted watching the whole series from the start, forgetting which I had seem before or not. I was only taking it half-seriously, enjoying the clever plots and schemes of Ethan Hunt and the the slowly expanding IMF gang. The stories were fun, but the thrills felt dated, but to be fair I am looking at them 30 years. The spy technology of the early files are so hilarious and definitely did not age well. So the cast is nice and clean: Tom Cruise continues to defy his "peculiar" IRL personality by being the one of the most underrated character actors of our time. Ving Rames is his usual loveable self, though his role in this film is a bit muted. Simon Pegg has gotten out of his desk-jockey shell and plays the nerd that's grown a pair quite well. Erm... Hawkeye... heh- his role is perfectly intermixed in his usual double agency. He does way more in this franchise than with Marvel IMHO. Alec Baldwin plays the misguided CIA agent that is trying to break the whole thing up, but I still didn't want him to get too hurt. As for the arching, Sean Harris brings the quiet "mwah-ha-ha-ha!" He doesn't relish death like Philip Seymour Hoffman did. He just DGAF about who was in the way- he just did the math and decided he was the protagonist and he played it. But the trophy roll in this film is Rebecca Ferguson who absolutely brings it as the foil. No wonder is now the star in Silo and Lady Jessica in Dune. She just carries a hot gravitas that is undeniable. But back to the film: the first thing that sets this apart is that the techno-spyjinks are in the background and only serve to further the twists and turns of a well-written thriller. The characters and their overall baddassery make this film great. The action is engaging and creative. Even the car chase never slips into that mind-numbing dullness of your typical action trash. It's simply fantastic. Second, unlike MI:4 - Goat Protocol, it doesn't get bogged down with a single engagement with waaay too much time spent on the iffy spy tech, but the team succeeds anyway only by dumb luck. In MI:5, the pacing smoothly moves between short lulls to regroup before the next set piece. The setup reveals the goals, not the plans, which reveal themselves as they unfold, one small revelation at a time. And while this installment still uses the familiar tropes like the breakaway flashbacks and timers that stop at the last possible moment, it still feels fresh. And of course, they don't forget how the title is coincidentally the same name as a certain British agency, which makes the film extra, as the kids purportedly say. And to that end, I have not seen a Bond film that comes close to being this good of a thriller. The final set piece was a beautiful puzzle box and It might be the best close of any of the films. There was just so much payoff that kept rolling out that I couldn't help but feel giddy. And when it was all wrapped up, the ending was satisfying. There weren't loads of unfinished business and ending on a downer. The setup for what comes next really made me want to just watch MI6 even though it was 1 am. I really want to see how that they make lots of nods to another certain international British agency. In short, it was the best installment yet. Like all of the prior films, it can be equally enjoyed as a standalone movie, perhaps even moreso. Ignore the haters and just sit back and enjoy.
- Gene CapmanOctober 6, 2025Benji waking up screaming, "AH LOOK OUT!" was the best part of the movie. Love me some Simon Pegg.
- HakihikoSeptember 24, 2025Sleek, Sharp, and Suspenseful "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" takes the momentum of "Ghost Protocol" and sharpens it into a more balanced blend of spectacle, intrigue, and suspense. Christopher McQuarrie's direction gives the franchise a cooler, more grounded tone while still keeping the outrageous stunts front and center-like the unforgettable plane sequence that sets the bar right from the start. Tom Cruise once again proves unstoppable, pulling off daring action with relentless energy, but what makes this entry stand out is the addition of Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust. She brings both mystery and charisma, stealing scenes and becoming one of the franchise's strongest characters. The cat-and-mouse dynamic between Ethan, Ilsa, and the Syndicate gives the film more dramatic weight than its predecessor. The pacing is taut, the set pieces are brilliantly executed, and the mix of espionage with blockbuster thrills feels seamless. While the villain isn't the most imposing, the tension and polish more than make up for it. Overall, a stylish and gripping entry that combines jaw-dropping stunts with clever spy intrigue, marking one of the franchise's best outings.
- G$$September 8, 2025Great movie!
- ZokkiieSeptember 2, 2025Nonstop action, crazy stunts, and Cruise going all out as usual. Ferguson is awesome and adds a fresh edge. The story twists a bit, but it’s super fun and keeps you hooked the whole way. Definitely a solid watch.
- jackmeatJune 2, 2025My quick rating - 6.9/10. I don't think it was terrible, actually quite good. Some convoluted action scenes, but then again, a summer movie so fits in just right. IMDB is at a 7.4 now, but was a 7.9 when I watched this in 2016, so maybe people agree with me a bit more since then. I'll see if my rating changes any from then as well since shuffle just pulled this up. Worth seeing, especially for fans of the series.
- tellumAugust 17, 2025I did not like this as much as M:I 4 but still very fun and maybe the best villain of the series.
- keithy077July 18, 2025MI franchise getting better each movie.
- Sarah JMay 27, 2025Sean Harris is the GOAT villain
- Kevin WardJuly 7, 2025Why the F did I not watch these when they came out? Damn you, John Woo. They took the recipe from Ghost Protocol and went and added Rebecca Ferguson😍. But Sean Harris as Soloman Lane is an equally important addition. He simply has the perfect villain voice and vibe. And then of course as if that wasn’t enough Tom Cruise hangs onto the side of an airplane. Don’t worry, I won’t sleep on M:I 7 when it comes out.
- Edward SchofieldJune 17, 2025Not in the plane, on the plane!
- Spaceman JoeMay 28, 2025This one, Fallout, Dead Reckoning, and Final Reckoning are all 10/10 for me. This was the moment McQ stepped in and turned an amazing franchise into the best franchise. goated villain and cast all around, perfect movie
- sonofbardJune 7, 2025It's so unrealistic that it's funny.
