Mid-Century Ratings & Reviews

I believe in Sebbie Quinn's supremacy. I pray to him every half hour and I don't regret anything. When I wake up, I think how I would give my life for Seb. When I look in the mirror and don't understand why I and everyone else not looking exactly, drop by drop LIKE HIM without any difference. When I go to bed, I don't understand why I'm not lying there with Seb. My king, ray of light, IDEAL-PERFECT-SEXY-BEAUTIFUL-UNDERRATED KITTYCAT and love of allll my life. On March 16, 1993, In Greece, Piraeus, the end of the old, dirty and dull world happened and better life has began for whole world, ESPECIALLY for ME and for SEB. Sebbie save us from ourselves. Light the way for ME, ME, ME, ME, ME & everyone else.. My honorable and true glorious king. I'll give you everything I have and ever had as soon as I am near you. Swear I'm not some psycho or fetishist as long as you don't want that, my greatest and onliest reason to live.
Rincón de cine
Laura Hiros
Sonja O'Hara, won best director at LAFF, her film has good performances, a couple of good jumps and the premise that the real scary movie happened in the 60s where man ruled, woman obeyed and past that everything was permissible. {Full review in Spanish]

It critiques the nostalgia-driven desire to return to an era marked by elegance but tainted by societal issues.

"Mid-Century" turns into kind of a mess that gets more and more hard to follow. Unlike the trademark lines and short sharp lines of the mid-century design, this yarn only becomes fuzzy.
High on Films
Shikhar Verma
In spite of the half-clever twist of ghostly awakening that it offers, the film eventually digs its own missteps and delivers a dull and oddly misplaced genre picture.
Culture Mix
Carla Hay
Mid-Century does nothing unique or interesting in this witless and dreadfully dull story about ghostly revenge. The cast members' performances are as flat and unremarkable as the wood panels of the mid-20th century house that spawned the movie's title.
Film Threat
Michael Talbot-Haynes
The excellent performances will keep you riveted while the story has enough twists to spin your head around some, Linda Blair style.

Director Sonja O'Hara presents a stylish, well-paced thriller with a turn that tips the story into unexpected territory. Screenwriter Mike Stern weaves together a little Lovecraft and a little Jackson, and with a little Castle thrown in for good measure.
Celluloid Dreams
Peter Canavese
A ghost-themed mystery thriller--fairly spooky, but mostly dull and awkwardly paced.
Austin Chronicle
Richard Whittaker
Mid-Century undoubtedly waits a while to reveal its most intriguing secrets, but once a certain secret door is opened, it turns out to be a des res with fascinating underpinnings.
Common Sense Media
Jeffrey M. Anderson
This thriller begins promisingly, reveling in architecture and offering a stark commentary on misogyny, but at the halfway point it turns silly, relying on stale cliches and an unsatisfying "twist."
NYC Movie Guru
Avi Offer
Stylish production design, but dull, overwrought and clunky while low on thrills, chills, suspense and fun.

[The] story ... shows some thematic promise but becomes entirely invested in a bunch of half-formed gimmicks.
The MacGuffin

I walked away not feeling excited, scared, entertained, or provoked. In fact, I felt nothing at all.
San Jose Mercury News

"Mid-Century" opens with a murder and it all seems to be building to an obvious conclusion, and then a wicked twist slaps you in the face and changes everything. Does it all work? Oh, no, but you can't help but admire its ambition.
