So bad it’s brilliant - paradoxically one of the best worst movies I’ve ever seen. It comes from a time when a love for Asian martial arts was reason enough to make a film, regardless of acting talent, budget, or script. The plot is predictably ridiculous: a music band that sings about martial arts becomes entangled in a conflict with a gang connected to the lead singer’s brother. The concert sequences are surprisingly catchy, but the rest of the film is pure chaos. The acting is charmingly weak, though there’s a sense of genuine effort behind it - Y.K. Kim clearly believed he could become the next Jackie Chan. The band’s shared living situation is especially funny: one moment they present themselves as fierce warriors, doing awkward flips and practicing kicks, and the next they’re running around shirtless, patting each other on the back and behaving like teenagers at a sleepover. This contrast perfectly amplifies the film’s campy humor.
