Memories of Murder Ratings & Reviews
- RickJuly 14, 2025The reveal of the final victim was a punch to the gut. The ending hit like a liver shot. If that wasn’t bad enough I got a kick to the nuts when I was reminded this was based on a true story. What an utterly depressing story that is just expertly told and executed. The slow unraveling of the protagonists due to the overwhelming need for answers is like a crushing weight. Bong Joon Ho is just absolutely masterful at what he does.
- Subash RamoneOctober 5, 2025I kinda prefer this to Parasite. Bong Joon Ho's style is really good in this. From comedy, it got dark really quick despite its slow pace. Movies like this are what Korean cinema is all about. Not kpop shit. Worth the watch.

- HakihikoJune 25, 2025A Gritty and Atmospheric Crime Drama "Memories of Murder" is a compelling crime thriller that blends mystery, dark humor, and social commentary in a unique way. Directed by Bong Joon-ho, the film is based on real events and follows two detectives in 1980s South Korea as they try to solve a series of brutal murders in a rural town. The film excels in creating a bleak and unsettling atmosphere, supported by excellent cinematography and strong performances-especially by Song Kang-ho, who brings both charisma and desperation to his role. The contrast between the two lead detectives, with their very different investigative methods, adds depth to the narrative. While the direction and tone are memorable, and the character work is rich, the pacing can feel a bit uneven at times. Some scenes drag a little or feel repetitive, which might slightly dull the tension. Still, the slow burn nature of the film adds to the feeling of helplessness and frustration that mirrors the detectives' own experience. The film's ambiguous and haunting ending is a bold choice that sticks with you, even if it may leave some viewers wanting more closure. Overall, "Memories of Murder" is an engaging and well-crafted film that doesn't always maintain its momentum but offers a powerful and atmospheric experience with lasting emotional weight.
