Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus is a monster/disaster film by The Asylum, released on May 19, 2009, in the United States and on August 7, 2009, in the United Kingdom. It was directed by Ace Hannah and stars singer Deborah Gibson and actor Lorenzo Lamas. In mid-2010, The Asylum updated their catalog with Mega Shark Versus Crocosaurus, which was released on December 21, 2010. The cast and director of Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus did not return in the sequel; instead, the film was directed by Christopher Douglas-Olen Ray and featured a new cast led by Jaleel White, Gary Stretch and Robert Picardo. The third chapter in the series titled Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark released on January 28, 2014, with Gibson reprising her role as Emma MacNeil.

a goofy if not entertaining piece of filmmaking

It's beyond incompetent, and it probably also sounds like it's a hoot and a holler as a result. This is not the case.

With a bigger special effects budget Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus would be a guaranteed cult classic in the making.

Schlock may be an acquired taste, like caviar, foie gras, and Arby's, but it's hard to see how anyone wouldn't enjoy this extremely tacky dish.

If ever there was a film that seemed designed with Mystery Science Theater 3000 in mind, this is it.

Absolutely glorious! Eighty-six fast-paced minutes of bad b-monster movie bonanza with a campy glee that will bring a smile to the face of many.

A huge iceberg calves that holds a megalodon (mega shark) and a giant octopus frozen inside it. Deployment of a LFAS (low frequency automatic sonar) unit causes it to shatter. The two behemoths thaw and return to life. The shark terrorizes the California coast while the octopus creates havoc things near Japan. A group of three oceanographers put together a plan to draw the beasts into a trap with pheromones.
