Meet Me in St. Louis
Directed by Vincente Minnelli- alexnoaholdmateDecember 13, 2025It is incredible that a movie about nothing can be so moving, and so joyful. There's next-to-no plot. The whole film is really just a buncha stuff that happens. And yet you fall in love with the characters all over again every time you see it, which is a testament to the power of the actors' performances. Many have also dismissed it over the years as just more silly MGM musical fluff, but this is to do it a grave disservice. Frightened Little Tootie's walk through the streets, towards the camera, on Halloween night is as technically proficient as anything else Hollywood was doing in that era, and proves that Director Vincente Minnelli - who, despite the name, was not Italian - had learned much from classic Italian Cinema.
