Matilda Ratings & Reviews
- Manuel FrangisDecember 5, 2025I just watched Matilda and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie has a special kind of magic that never fades, no matter how many years go by. It has heart, humor, emotion, and a message that stays with you long after the credits roll. From the moment the story begins, you feel like you are stepping into a world where kindness and courage matter just as much as imagination. Even though the movie is filled with fun and silly moments, it also carries a deep emotional strength that makes it unforgettable. One of the biggest reasons this movie works so well is the cast. Mara Wilson gives a beautiful performance as Matilda. She plays the character with sensitivity, intelligence, and quiet confidence. You can see the emotion in her eyes, whether she is feeling lonely, curious, or brave. She brings a sweetness to the role that makes you root for her in every moment. Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman are perfect as her parents. They are exaggerated in all the funniest and most frustrating ways, and they add a strong sense of humor to the movie. Miss Trunchbull is one of the most memorable villains in any family film. She is loud, intimidating, and unforgettable. The way she carries herself creates tension every time she appears on screen. Her presence adds just enough fear to make the emotional victories even stronger. On the other side is Miss Honey, who brings warmth, gentleness, and kindness to the story. Her relationship with Matilda is one of the most touching parts of the movie. She represents the goodness that Matilda deserves, and their bond gives the film its emotional heart. The story itself is inspiring. Matilda faces challenges that would overwhelm most children, yet she never loses her sense of curiosity or her belief in herself. The movie shows how powerful intelligence, kindness, and imagination can be, even in difficult situations. It also shows how important it is to stand up for yourself and for others. Matilda’s journey from loneliness to empowerment feels emotional and uplifting. Even though there are moments where her world feels unfair, the movie balances that with moments of triumph that feel earned and deeply satisfying. The humor is another strong part of the film. There are silly scenes, clever jokes, and moments that still make me laugh today. The movie knows how to balance its emotional weight with lighthearted fun. It never becomes too dark, even during tough moments, because the humor lifts the spirit of the story. The soundtrack and visuals also add to the charm. The bright colors, creative set pieces, and warm music all create a comforting atmosphere that fits the story perfectly. What makes Matilda truly special is how it makes you feel. It reminds you of what it is like to be a child trying to find your place in the world. It makes you think about the importance of kindness and how powerful it can be when someone finally believes in you. It celebrates curiosity, intelligence, and the strength to dream. By the time the movie ended, I felt warm, emotional, and grateful for how beautifully the story was told. Matilda remains one of the most heartfelt and inspiring family films ever made. It completely earned its perfect rating from me.

- RazorbitzFebruary 22, 2025Somehow I missed this one during my youth, yet through the bullying of my partner I finally got around to watching it, kicking and screaming though I was. Since this is my stupid amateur review, I will callously dub Matilda as the pinnacle of children's cinema with nothing else to back it up and leave it at that. I feel like if I watched this as a kid I would have been dismissive of the messaging, but as an adult surrounded by those who so often act befouled by children and adults alike daring to enjoy their hobbies in private--knowing how all too fragile these warm passions can be--it was a movie I didn't know I needed to see. I can't even begin to fathom humans much beyond the few I allow into my life, and this film highlights my inherent bafflement with the comically evil behaviors of parents and teachers alike who view self-actualization as a grave sin that must be stamped out, if not for the few good people that might be there to catch us if we're lucky enough. It makes me think of my old english teacher who did just that for me, whom without I may have settled for a much less enriched life without any art to appreciate or create without his encouragement. Teachers--passionate, caring teachers--are essential for us all. How I wish this was an obvious fact and not something that has to be fought for. I love Matilda and you should too.
