Actually, Anniela Hansen has every reason to be happy: soon the young teacher will emigrate to Singapore with her fiancé Robert. The two want to marry there, the enterprising Robert is supposed to continue the company of Anniela's deceased father. The tickets are booked, the suitcases are packed - and then it happens: Anniela catches Robert in the arms of his ex-girlfriend Julie. Deeply hurt, she ends the relationship without discussion. Despite this stroke of fate, she does not want to give up her travel plans. Anniela flies to Singapore with her mother Dorothea. The young woman quickly settled into the fascinating Asian metropolis. Together with her local friend Ming Li, she is committed to preserving a traditional cultural center that is to make way for a luxurious casino. She also works in a language institute as a German teacher. Here she meets the likeable Chinese businessman Dai Si Wong. He shows Anniela the best side of Singapore, off the beaten track - and it doesn't take long for a tender romance to develop between the two. Anniela has no idea that Dai Si is, of all people, the son of the powerful construction magnate Zu Wong, who wants to have the cultural center demolished. As a junior manager and project manager, he even drew up the plans for the new casino building. Meanwhile, Robert has followed Anniela to Singapore to try and reconcile with her. He finds support from Dorothea, who hopes that Robert, as a son-in-law, can put the financially troubled family business back on the road to success. Torn between the sensitive Dai Si and the seemingly remorseful Robert, whose main concern is his career, Anniela finally follows her heart - and chooses Dai Si. But then she learns the truth about his role in the threatened demolition of the cultural center.
