A group of young boys are stranded alone on an island. Left to fend for themselves, they must take on the responsibilities of adults, even if they are not ready to do so. Inevitably, two factions form: one group (led by Ralph) want to build shelters and collect food, whereas Jack's group would rather have fun and HUNT; illustrating the difference between civilization and savagery.

    As one of my favorite novels, it's disappointing that neither this nor the 1990 adaptation fully hits the mark. While the 1963 film has compelling moments, its dated filmmaking style makes it hard to connect with emotionally. The stakes never feel as high as they should, and the fear and desperation that define the book are noticeably lacking.
