Pixar continuously delivers some of the most original content of any Hollywood Studio (and I’m not just talking animation). I can count on a trip to the cinema with gorgeous visuals where my entire family laughs (and/or cries), everyone enjoys themselves and no one is bored. That still holds true. However, I have always felt that Pixar’s weakest efforts have been their sequels (Cars 2,3, Monsters University, Finding Nemo). The only exceptions to this “rule” to this point has been Incredibles 2 and the Toy Story franchise. While Lightyear isn’t technically a Toy Story film, it is almost wholly derivative of the things we know about Buzz from Toy Story with scarce little that feels original in any way. Yes, there are fun homages to sci-fi classics as well, but that only adds to the feeling that this is just a hollow shell of a film.  By comparison, Lightyear feels as though it’s lacking that very trademark originality and emotional fortitude that makes Pixar my most trusted studio in the business. I say “by comparison” because Lightyear is by no measure a bad film. It’s a decent sci-fi adventure that looks beautiful on the big screen,  Everyone laughed, some cried, all enjoyed and no one was bored,  But this definitely feels like a major step down to describe a Pixar release as decent.

This is and always will be an emotionally great film. People complaining are usually heartless trump voters.

This is a sad, strange little movie... That being said "if" the Buzz Lightyear we all know & love hadn't existed... I would've probably given this movie 3 stars & if it hadn't so blatantly ripped off other movies... I would've probably given it 3 1/2 stars maybe even 4, but those things do exist & did happen, so I was really torn on a 2 or a 2 1/2. I did still enjoy about 20mins of this movie though so I did end up with a 2 1/2. I do believe without Toy Story in 1995 Andy would've loved this. I think a lot of people forget when you're 10 years old. Playing with the toy from a movie is usually more fun than the movie itself. My Son's favorite movie of all time at 10 was Batman & Robin, probably the worst Batman movie ever made.

This is a saccharin, moral-heavy, story of personal growth starring Snooze Lightyear and a motley crew of forgetful fuckups. Taika Waititi's character is so overly-buffoonish and unlikeable that not even his talented voice work can save the cringe. Buzz is equally unlikeable but at least he's not a straight-up moron. I don't even remember the names of the other two in the group so that should say a lot since I watched this <24 hours ago. Sox is the only breath of relief... and I can't tell if that's because it's a well-written and enjoyable character, or if it's just because the others are so far down the give-a-fuck scale that it's an illusion of likeability. I really tried to like this (or at least give it a chance) but it's basically if Pixar made a G-rated Looper 2: Electric Boogaloo. I honestly don't know who this is for. Hopefully this tanks hard enough that Disney doesn't consider coming out with a standalone Sheriff Woody movie next (obviously called: Pride.) But if they did, I wouldn't be surprised...nor would I watch. If this movie had actually existed irl in 1995, then I bet it would have bombed harder than Cutthroat Island did. 🤣👎

A prime example of a movie nobody asked for, but one a studio felt a couple of extra dollars could be milked out of. Disney does it's Moden Disney thing with a touch of theme shoe horning, but on the whole, it's actually a reasonable entry. All the gloss and finish that you would expect, but the story won't really grip older audiences. That being said, the one thing that can paper over many-a-crack for all demographics, is present... a well placed, cute and cuddly sidekick. Nothing particularly groundbreaking, nothing overly exciting, but short and sweet enough for adults to get through, and enough to appease kids and fans of the franchise.

There are a thousand reasons why this gets the score it does, but the things that irk me are the dumb side characters and that awful plot twist
