- Matthias_812April 4, 2025You've got your Sharktopus movies, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Killer Tomatoes- those are all wild but get this; naked space vampires with the lead as a big busted female. Interested? Curious? There's nothing else like it. And to make it that much more of an oddball, this space epic came from the mind of Tobe Hooper- the father of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This wasn't your standard horror movie made on a budget of a couple million. In fact, the studio forked over a WHOPPING twenty-five million dollars to create Hooper's vision! But it's not a positive outcome at all, in the box office the film didn't even earn back half their budget in ticket sales. A commercial and critical failure as reviews weren't exactly as praising either. To be honest, I don't even know if there's a big cult following for this space epic oddity either but I freaking adore it. This is a Star Trek/Steven Spielberg/Alien gone mad mess of a mash up. All of the great 80's practical effects are there plus we get a load of the wonderful cartoonish CGI action that looked far from lifelike. The vampires are quite different from the gothic vampires we're so used to- even differing from the bloodthirsty ones too. These vampires don't bite the neck alternatively sucking the life energy out of the body through the mouth (of which causes a spectacular lightning energy) turning their victim into a human rasin before becoming a zombie. On top of that they can overtake their victim's body as a walking vessel traveling from body to body. They have very little dialogue too adding to their mysterious beings. This little space epic romp takes itself too seriously- I mean you've got a model-level naked broad of a space vampire robotically walking around sucking the life out of those she needs energy from leaving them as a trail of zombies. And I haven't even begun to detail the apocalyptic ending! It's bad sci-fi, weak as a horror too, yet carries the spirit of both on top of a blockbuster budget- it's hard not to enjoy how ridiculous this little flick is.
- Ray HopkinMarch 16, 2025Space Vampires who take the form of absolutely sexy nude Mathilda May and run around London naked while turning everyone into zombies, what's not to love! The make up and effects are still brilliant, the story is bonkers, and it kept me captivated throughout. Loved it!
