Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life Ratings & Reviews

I absolutely love this sequel, as much as I love the first one, Angelina, Gérard and some of the cast did a fantastic job. The visuals were awesome, the storyline was well written and The Shadow Guardian monsters, CGI was on point 👌🏾, the love scene between Terry and Lara was sexy as heck. However, my only criticism, is that I wished they'd picked a better actor, to portray the Villain (Reiss), as I thought his performance was dry, cringey and boring 😴. He didn't make the character intimidating and I couldn't take him seriously (there were times I laughed my butt off). This film is one of my childhood favourites and I'd definitely watch it a thousand times ❤. Lastly, I do wish they did a 3rd movie, as Angelina slayed the role and the Franchise was and is amazing 👏🏾.
Newsweek
David Ansen
It's not half bad, with cool locations and a great stunt leap from the top of a Hong Kong high-rise. Unlike the wink-winking Charlie's Angels, Croft 2 mostly, and wisely, keeps a straight face.
Common Sense Media
Nell Minow
Better than the first, but not by much.
Variety
David Rooney
The less welcome news is that most of the same shortcomings that cramped the first installment are still dogging the sequel, which delivers on action but dawdles through downtime.
Chicago Reader
J. R. Jones
This Indiana Jones knockoff goes down smoothly enough, and Jolie isn't bad at all.
Rolling Stone
Peter Travers
Scenery can't save this blindingly dull sequel.
Village Voice
Michael Atkinson
Jolie remains more magazine cover than actress (or movie star), and the franchise she supports is more Nintendo after-school time killer than rousing adventure cycle.
Ebert & Roeper
Richard Roeper
Silly, cheesy and tacky.
MovieFreak.com
Sara Michelle Fetters
The fact that the thought of part three is even a possibility is probably the greatest mystery of all; one not even the famously chiseled title character herself could figure out.
Austin Chronicle
Marc Savlov
Bombastic it may be, but it's rarely boring, as was the first Tomb Raider. Keep your expectations in line with the source material and you may be pleasantly surprised.
Salon.com
Andrew O'Hehir
A highly enjoyable summer thrill ride.
Washington Post
Ann Hornaday
Another sequel cashing in on its pre-sold audience without providing anything by way of sparkle, wit or originality.
USA Today
Claudia Puig
For a movie based on a video game, the story is as far-fetched and the characters as one-dimensional as one might expect.
Seattle Times
Mary Brennan
More like a Cradle of Tedium, and despite the high-decibel sound and fury, you may wish you had brought a pillow.
San Francisco Chronicle
Mick LaSalle
Without sacrificing velocity, de Bont gives us a clean, watchable film, with some exciting sequences.
New York Post
Jonathan Foreman
Banal dialogue, ludicrous and uninspired plotting, dull but vicious fight scenes.
Houston Chronicle
Eric Harrison
The new film isn't very good, but it's possible to sit through it without holding your nose.
Detroit News
Tom Long
A film as boring as its title is grammatically incorrect and long.
Denver Post
Michael Booth
Jolie may be defining herself in a franchise whose memory will be hard to erase later in her career, but she does it with the style of a legend.
Boston Globe
Wesley Morris
As a collection of action sequences, The Cradle of Life couldn't be less rousing were it performed by the cast of Cocoon.
