Labyrinth Ratings & Reviews
- RipLinesMan7d agoLabyrinth is basically a fairy-tale version of Event Horizon (1997), except the hellmouth is a maze made of vibes, temptation, and adolescent fear instead of a starship’s gravity drive, and Jim Henson is smart enough to make that idea feel sincere rather than cute. Jennifer Connelly’s Sarah moves through the Labyrinth like a rookie crew member learning which doors are real airlocks and which are just the set dressing of panic, while David Bowie’s Jareth is the charismatic demon of the place, all velvet and glitter, offering bargains that still smell like brimstone. Toby Froud’s baby Toby is the “missing crew” objective that keeps the corridor tightening, and Shelley Thompson and Christopher Malcolm as the stepmother and father ground the film in domestic reality so the fantasy reads like an externalized engine room of family tension. That dynamic mirrors Event Horizon’s core duel, where Laurence Fishburne’s Captain Miller represents discipline and containment, and Sam Neill’s Dr. William Weir represents surrender to the red-lit promise behind the sealed door, except Labyrinth filters the same moral geometry through a PG dream logic where the punishment is growing up wrong. The craft is why it endures: Henson’s creatures feel tactile and alive, the blocking turns corridors into psychological tests, and Bowie plays Jareth with the exact confidence of a villain who thinks he is offering salvation, which is always the most dangerous kind.

- LillyMarch 29, 2025This movie is elite. Like most kids watching this and growing up and watching it again I can see so much more of the story and characters then before. One of the best coming if age movies capturing a young lady learning hard truths and her own power. I think a part of me will always love the Goblin King. Sarah was so perfectly portrayed as a young woman not too in the know and not without childishness to grow out of, or embrace. You remind me of the babe. What babe? The babe of the power. What power? Power of voodoo. Who do? You do. Do what? Remind of the babe.

- RichardOctober 12, 2025This one was unforgettable from the moment the lights dimmed. Seeing Labyrinth in the cinema was like stepping into a dream stitched together by Jim Henson, George Lucas and David Bowie. The puppetry was alive, the sets surreal and the soundtrack pulsed with Bowie’s otherworldly charm. It wasn’t just a movie, it was a portal. The labyrinth was a living puzzle, full of talking worms, shifting staircases and creatures that felt pulled from a child’s fevered imagination. It played like Alice in Wonderland meets Escher, with a dose of glam rock and Muppet mischief. Watching it on TV later brought comfort. Owning it on DVD meant you could revisit the magic anytime. But nothing quite matched that first cinematic experience, when the Goblin King appeared in full surround sound and the Fireys danced across the screen in glorious chaos. It’s weird, whimsical and deeply personal. A coming of age tale wrapped in fantasy, where growing up means learning to let go and realizing that sometimes, the monsters are the ones who love you most.
