King Solomon's Mines Ratings & Reviews
- RichyE1d agoFortune hunter Allan Quatermain (Richard Chamberlain) teams up with the spirited Jesse Huston (Sharon Stone) to find her missing father, who vanished while searching for the legendary mines of King Solomon. Their journey through 1900s Africa pits them against hostile tribes, deadly traps, and a rival German explorer, all in pursuit of unimaginable treasure. 🗺️ Style & Legacy Indiana Jones Influence: Clearly modeled after the success of Raiders of the Lost Ark, but with a more exaggerated and campy tone. Creature Effects: Includes bizarre monsters like a giant spider and mutant hippo, adding to its pulpy charm. Dialogue & Humor: Often unintentionally hilarious, with lines like “I could buy Iowa with a handful of these.” ⚖️ Final Verdict King Solomon’s Mines is a wild, uneven ride through jungle adventure tropes. While it lacks the polish and coherence of its Hollywood inspirations, it delivers campy thrills, eccentric villains, and enough absurdity to earn cult status among fans of retro action. Best enjoyed with a sense of irony and a love for ‘80s excess.
- Mister ArnMay 23, 2025This is a very poor imitation of Raiders of the Lost Ark, filled with poorly thought-out scenes.
- Matthias_812April 2, 2025Love J. Lee Thompson, love The Cannon Group, love Sharon Stone, yet I cannot love King Solomon's Mines. This thing really is a generic brand Indiana Jones. Really weird dialogue too- one instance our Indiana Jones wannabe picks up some gold treasure and says, "I could buy Iowa with a handful of these" IOWA, literally the first purchase he wants to make is IOWA. Just crazy excess but I suppose that's what makes The Cannon Group great to begin with. As a kid I probably would had liked this more, nearly thirty- no way. A few great creature effects, the best quicksand scene, and the mine scenes at the end are cool.
