King of Thieves Ratings & Reviews

After reading bad reviews I was curious, After all it has Michael Caine in it. After watching it I was pleasantly surprised, it is really good. The crooks planned the heist so well but the film reveals why ur sent the way it did. And Jim Broadbent shows his acting by being totally opposite to his normal characters. Of course I look up after the watching and found that this film is probably closer to what happened. I really enjoyed this movie.

It's kind of a mishmash of tones... [But] these guys could just sit around and have tea and talk and it would be enormously watchable.
Entertainment Weekly

There's some real, small pleasure in watching these old lions at work...
SSG Syndicate

Although this infamous crime caper has a terrific cast, it's uneven and forgettable,
The Young Folks
Brian Thompson
To borrow the brand of crude, hand-holding humor that the film so readily indulges in, King of Thieves is too flaccid to get the job done.
Observer
Rex Reed
It's a marvel to watch Caine, Courtenay, Broadbent and Gambon go at each other with an aplomb that dazzles.
One Guy's Opinion
Frank Swietek
These stars are always a joy to watch; the pity is that the movie isn't entirely worthy of them.
North Shore Movies

As an example of the British crime film, [it] may not break new ground but it does provide a showcase for its stellar cast.

The characters are well worth spending time with as they amble toward disaster.
Common Sense Media
Jeffrey M. Anderson
Based on a true story, this movie about "old codger" criminals feels a little dry/routine, but the great cast still strikes enough sparks to make it worth a look.
TheWrap
Monica Castillo
The script (by Joe Penhall, based on a magazine article by Mark Seal) runs in fits and starts, but the camerawork from Danny Cohen keeps the mood lively during any lulls.
MovieWeb

King of Thieves should have had the robbery at the forefront, then the fallout between the criminals secondary. That's a difficult choice with a cast of this caliber.
RogerEbert.com
Odie Henderson
King of Thieves is a disappointing mess that lacks both suspense and a clear identity. Not even the occasional joy of seeing these fine actors riff with one another can save it.
Cinemalogue
Todd Jorgenson
Some legendary British actors shine as brightly as the jewels they pilfer in this otherwise lackluster heist thriller that unfortunately squanders their efforts.
NPR
Scott Tobias
With a cast this rich in experience and history and a fact-based heist of such enormous scale, King of Thieves sounds like a shake-and-bake classic in the making, which makes its pedestrian execution all the more puzzling to behold.
Los Angeles Times
Gary Goldstein
If only this post-heist section had more tension, suspense and surprise, "King" could have been a real contender.
The Playlist

Where King of Thieves fails its heralded cast is in its shifts in tone. We're promised a fun ride with Caine in the driver's seat, but the trip goes downhill too quickly.

Calling King Of Thieves the British answer to Gotti is harsh, obviously. But honestly? It's not much of a stretch.
New York Times
Jeannette Catsoulis
For all its flaws - and they are legion - "King of Thieves" wraps you in a fuzzy blanket of familiarity.
The Hollywood Reporter
Stephen Dalton
King of Thieves really should have delivered way more cinematic swag than it does.
