Was really looking forward to this after seeing an FB reel of the card game robbery. Watched it tonight...was ok. Maybe I'm a simple movie watcher....i can't get all deep into symbolism and all that like I've seen some reviews get about this movie, but there was way too much talking going on for my liking. The buddy always high I found annoying. I don't even know what the point of Gandolfini being in the movie was. His role didn't add anything for me. I have no problem watching movies I like multiple times. This one I don't see myself watching again.

My quick rating 6.0/10. It was good, with decent performances, but the story as a whole was a bit bland. Still a good watch, and not sure how this one slipped through the cracks over the years.

The acting is exceptional but the story makes little sense from a character motivation standpoint, and then the movie ends where it seemingly should begin.

Excellent movie. I loved the underlying message the movie portrayed... cleverly. The cast did a great job. Even if you didn't catch the underlying theme, it's a solid movie on the surface e level.

This illustrates the bureaucratic structure of the mob, demonstrating that even criminal organizations can adopt a corporate model.

    Dragged on with useless chatter.

A large ensemble cast, superb performances, a great story… but it falls short in its failed attempt to achieve brilliance

Just barely watchable because Brad is awesome. Another scummy tale about drug addict losers being terrible. No point. No payoff. Just blah. Spoiler: The Scene where Ray Liotta eats it is beautiful. Best minute of the movie.

Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly is a moody, stylized neo-noir thriller that merges crime drama with sharp political undertones. Based on George V. Higgins’ novel Cogan’s Trade, the film follows hitman Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt) as he’s tasked with restoring order after an ill-advised robbery disrupts the local underworld economy. One of the film’s most compelling aspects is its bleak yet mesmerizing atmosphere. Dominik crafts a slow-burning tension, punctuated by moments of brutal violence and cynical humor. Pitt delivers an effortlessly cool yet quietly ruthless performance, backed by standout turns from James Gandolfini, Scoot McNairy, and Ray Liotta. While the film’s social commentary—tying criminal dealings to the broader collapse of the American economy—adds depth, some critics found the metaphor a bit heavy-handed. The pacing, deliberately languid, may test the patience of viewers expecting a more conventional crime thriller. Nonetheless, Killing Them Softly remains a slick, thought-provoking film that offers a unique take on crime and capitalism. If you appreciate noir with a political edge, this one is worth a watch.
