- N8October 10, 2024How did we go from the masterpiece that was Jurassic Park to...this? The original film was a cinematic triumph, a thrilling adventure that also pondered complex ethical questions about scientific hubris and humanity's relationship with nature. It masterfully built suspense, culminating in genuinely terrifying sequences that solidified its place not just as an adventure classic, but as a touchstone in the horror genre. Jurassic World Dominion, on the other hand, feels like a hollow echo of its predecessor. Instead of forging its own path, it shamelessly panders to nostalgia, relying on cheap callbacks and cameos to elicit cheers from the audience. The movie felt like a blatant attempt to recapture the magic of the original without understanding what made it work. The film's action sequences, while technically impressive, lack the tension and ingenuity of Spielberg's original. The dinosaurs, once awe-inspiring creatures, are now reduced to CGI monsters in a generic action flick. The script is riddled with clichés and the characters are paper-thin, lacking the depth and complexity of their predecessors. Perhaps Dominion could have worked had it focused on exploring the consequences of dinosaurs coexisting with humans in a modern world. Imagine a film that delved into the ecological, social, and economic implications of such a scenario. Instead, we get a convoluted plot that feels completely disconnected from the thematic core of the original. Ultimately, Jurassic World Dominion is a disappointing reminder of how Hollywood often prioritizes profit over artistic integrity. It's a film that sacrifices substance for spectacle. It's a shame that a franchise with such potential has been reduced to a pale imitation of its former glory, serving as a cautionary tale about the dangers of blindly chasing nostalgia.
- Ray HopkinJuly 30, 2025I really loved this, the way they showed how the dinosaurs were interacting in the everyday world. The return of the original cast members was also great, and I thought they complimented the new cast really well. Some of the action scenes were awesome, and I really liked the way they incorporated the storyline of how pharmaceutical companies would take advantage of situations like this, it's exactly what they would do!
- StreetterMarch 30, 2026Really disappointing. This franchise lost all the magic since the very first Jurassic Park. I don't care about any of the new characters. From Jurassic Park, I know off by heart: Grant, Ellie, Malcom, Hammond, Timmy, Lex, Nedry... Can you name a single name from this new franchise? I can't... All I know is "Chris Pratt", and I still have no clue what his name is. These new movies are so focused on CGI, they didn't even make an attempt at good story telling.
- Kevin WardJuly 7, 2025This story is a mess. This film is tasked with wrapping up lots of story threads from the previous films. Since I wasn’t really a fan of many of those stories, it was kind of inevitable that some of that wasn’t going to work for me. Like previous films too, the writer’s are straining to find logical reasons for all of these characters to come together and are largely unsuccessful. Character motivations across the board are just silly. This film felt way too long and 2.5 hours. The first hour is kind of a slog with little to no dinosaurs on screen aside from an opening Now This! Newsreel. (“Uh, now eventually you do plan to have dinosaurs in your dinosaur film?”) And even when the dino action finally starts to kick in, you never ever feel any stakes. Our main characters, even when mere feet away from a deadly dinosaur, it rarely feels like they’re in any danger. (Spoiler: they’re not). I could probably count on one hand the number of people killed by dinosaurs in this film. And nearly all of them are rando’s in the background. I have plenty more issues with the stories and the characters. But, if you’re willing to throw stories and character out for a popcorn flick, you may get what you’re looking for out of Jurassic World Dominion.
- James SaenzJuly 3, 2025it cannot be overstated how much of the film is filled with compelling imagery that the editing finds complete disdain for and seeks to undermine at every possible juncture. the editing is nearly as aggravating to watch as all of the superficial appeals to nostalgia and meaningless references to the previous films, which the final act is almost completely comprised of; it’s like what people envision poor fanfic is like, and i literally groaned out loud when the t-rex walked behind the circle sculpture to look like the jurassic park logo. if god is good then god should’ve smote me right there to ease my suffering. one of my complaints from fallen kingdom is how they set up maisie to be a human clone and go nowhere with it, which makes it all the more frustrating when they barely go any further in this film. her entire origin is the crux of the plot and the new context provided adds some nuance to her character and relationships, but neither of these are ever sufficiently explored to make the closure she gains feel impactful. there’s so much more that i want to complain about but i simply don’t have the energy. i really liked how they brought back dodgson just to make him and biosyn analogues for tim cook and apple (and big tech in general); from his appearance to his diction and mannerisms, from the clear imitation of apple park for the biosyn facility to the aesthetic of the internal architecture, it all screams the cold minimalism of tech corporations. it honestly feels like a bitter representation of tim cook specifically - like multiple people in the production process had beef with him - which i find funny. i also love watching laura dern and jeff goldblum act; dern’s commitment to the craft never feels anything less than spectacular and goldblum’s idiosyncrasies really help deliver on the comedic end. i love sam neill but it feels like he got the short end of the stick with his characterization and direction. as usual, the dinosaur fights are fun as hell. the final fight makes no sense but god is it fun seeing a giganotosaurus shish kebab.
