The original Jumanji is a classic, and this felt like it could easily be a betrayal of everything I loved about it. Yet somehow, I ended up genuinely enjoying it. Yes, it’s mass-market, yes, it has The Rock in it, and yes, I usually can’t stand Jack Black. But it worked. Somehow. The story itself was surprisingly well-constructed. The video game tropes were consistently funny, though I wish they had leaned harder into Spencer’s expertise as a gamer. The humor could have been even sharper there. What really made the movie for me, though, were the performances. The actors had to act. Dwayne Johnson was actually convincing as an insecure nerd inside a hulking body. Jack Black perfectly nailed the role of a self-absorbed popular girl. Karen Gillan was phenomenal (her voice work shifting East Highland to American is always spot on), and even Kevin Hart did a serviceable job. But the real surprise was Nick Jonas, his story arc was quietly my favorite of the film. I also appreciated the references to the original Jumanji. They felt like affectionate waves rather than cynical cash grabs, which made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. In short, I didn’t want to like this movie but I did. It’s broad, it’s commercial, it’s silly, but beneath that, it’s genuinely clever and surprisingly well done.

From the moment Spencer (Dwayne Johnson) and company crash-land in the jungle, you’re in for a nonstop ride of collapsing temples, stampeding rhinos, and death-defying jumps. It’s an instant adrenaline rush that never lets up—but never feels gratuitous, either. What makes the whole thing click is the cast. Johnson’s muscle-bound hero vibe clashes hilariously with Kevin Hart’s non-stop panicked commentary, while Jack Black gleefully channels teen-girl angst and Karen Gillan surprises with her stealthy action chops. Their chemistry sells every joke and every near-miss, turning what could’ve been a by-the-numbers adventure into something genuinely fun—and occasionally sweet—about friendship and stepping out of your comfort zone. Sure, the story hits the familiar “level by level” beats and the PG-13 rating means you won’t actually lose a limb, but that’s part of the charm. This Jumanji isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel; it just wants to give you a fast, friendly thrill ride with enough heart to make you cheer. If you’re up for a lighthearted blast that doesn’t take itself too seriously, hit “play” on this one—you won’t regret it.

- August 12, 2026Ruby Rams is my favorite because in the second movie when her music box turned on she said anybody wanna dance with the bride and I was like one of my favorite parts but in the first movie which is this movie I love it because when she started dancing, it started like romance, but then it was like I wanna beat that beat up these boys and I’m like go Ruby Roundhouse cause I’m like I’ve never watched this but now when I started watching it, I was amazed and I’ve watched all the movies now and I just can’t wait to watch the movie that’s gonna come out on Christmas Eve so I’m probably gonna watch it on Christmas Eve
