- Jacob O’NealJuly 2, 2025This movie was a mess. I don’t think the producers even know how many writers worked on this script since it was originally written in the 70’s. Yet only was credited. Jeremy Piven is a douche of a human and he plays one in the movie as well. He comes to pick up his friends for a guys night when his actions cause the death of someone and slowly, through the remainder of the film, he and his friends get killed off. No, this isn’t Very Bad Things, but it seems like Piven is typecast. The story of the movie is as follows - fresh off Predator 2, Stephen Hopkins directed the movie with one of the best soundtracks in history. He overpaid Emilio Estevez because he was available and they needed to start production right away. They fired Peter Greene halfway through the movie and used his stand in for the remainder. That stand in - Adam Corolla. Eric Shrody, aka Everlast of House Of Pain, co-starred with Denis Leary as the bad guys in the movie. There were real murders happening in Chicago where they were shooting. The producers through Hopkins was using matte paintings to make Chicago look so bad and were shocked to discover that’s just the city. The score was re-written because the studio wanted a more traditional action film sound and not what Alan Silvesrti first did, which was closer to a horror soundtrack. Like I said, this movie was a mess. Despite the mess of a movie that this was, it’s actually not bad. The acting is good. It was labeled as bad for so long that people only liked the soundtrack. If you haven’t heard it, go download it, buy it, consume it. Putting together rap and rock groups like Ice T with Slayer or Pearl Jam and Cypress Hill was genius. House Of Pain is on the soundtrack with Helmet. You can’t have Everlast in your movie without putting him on the soundtrack. Side note - what’s up with Emilio Estevez having shared the screen with the likes of musicians who rarely act? Everlast, Mick Jagger, Jon Bon Jovi (cameo in Young Guns II) and likely more I’m not remembering right now. If only he was in The Running Man with Mick Fleetwood. Oh well.
