- Manuel FrangisMarch 19, 2025I just watched Jerry & Marge Go Large, and I would give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is a feel good, heartwarming story that is just as entertaining as it is inspiring. It is the kind of film that reminds you that great things can come from the most unexpected places, and it does so with humor, charm, and a fantastic cast. The movie follows Jerry Selbee, played by Bryan Cranston, a recently retired man who discovers a loophole in the lottery system. Instead of keeping it all to himself, he partners with his wife Marge, played by Annette Bening, to use their winnings to help their small Michigan town. It is a simple but incredibly engaging premise that keeps you invested from beginning to end. Bryan Cranston is amazing in this role. He plays Jerry as a quiet, brilliant man who just wants to do something meaningful with his life after retirement. His performance is subtle yet powerful, making you believe every moment of his journey. Annette Bening is equally fantastic as Marge, bringing warmth, humor, and heart to every scene she is in. The chemistry between them is completely natural, making them one of the best on screen couples in a long time. The supporting cast is just as good. Rainn Wilson steals the show in every scene he is in, bringing in the perfect amount of comedic relief. The rest of the townspeople add to the charm, making the entire story feel authentic and real. Everyone plays their part perfectly, and the movie never feels over the top or forced. One of the best things about this movie is how uplifting and positive it is. Even though there is plenty of drama, there is no unnecessary conflict or forced tension. It is just a genuinely good story about good people trying to do something amazing. There are not enough movies like this anymore, and that is what makes it stand out. The humor in the film is smart and natural. It never tries too hard to be funny, but the dialogue and situations create plenty of laughs. There are moments that feel so real that you cannot help but smile, and others that catch you completely off guard with their wit. It is never too silly, but just the right amount of lighthearted and fun. The cinematography is simple but effective. The small town setting feels alive, and every scene is beautifully shot. The way the movie captures everyday life makes everything feel even more relatable. The pacing is perfect, with no slow moments or unnecessary filler. What really makes Jerry & Marge Go Large special is its heart. It is a movie about family, community, and finding purpose in life, no matter your age. It does not try to be overly dramatic or emotional, but by the end, you cannot help but feel connected to the characters and their journey. It is inspiring without being cheesy and entertaining without being over the top. This is the kind of movie that leaves you feeling good after watching it. It is a rare film that reminds you that good things can still happen and that sometimes, taking a chance on something unexpected can lead to something truly great. I absolutely loved this movie, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great story with amazing performances and an uplifting message. It is a movie that is worth watching, rewatching, and sharing with others.
- theLillyPadFebruary 27, 2025Overall a good movie, and a fun watch for Breaking Bad/The Office Fans in particular. This is a feel-good film that occasionally crosses the line into being a little too cheesy for its own good. The antagonistic college student feels a bit too exaggerated, and there is a speech or conversation here or there that are a touch unbelievable and sappy. "Jerry and Marge", however, are more than the some of its parts. The movie really does get you to root for them and for the hometown, and the relationship between the titular characters is relatable and wholesome. A great slow-stakes watch that will give you the warm-and-fuzzies.
