- Daniel Gustavsson12. oktober 2024Well what is there to say here? First, this is not a horror movie by any stretch of the word. With that in mind, it's pretty good. It's a slow, suspenseful, well done and pretty interesting movie. What makes the movie stand out for me is the characters. They just feel like real people. No bullshit, just regular people. Combine that with a sense of mystery over some of the characters and you have a pretty intriguing movie. Sadly, the characters fall apart a little bit towards the end and falls into some very overused clichés, but it's forgivable in the light of things. Also the ending could have had more of an impact. It just kind of mellows out and then that's it. It feels somewhat odd, considering what has just transpired. I think I understand that they were going for, but I think it would have been better with more of a bang tbh. I'd definitely recommend this movie though, just make sure you know what you're going to see.

Trey Edward Shults builds a relentlessly tense atmosphere where uncertainty becomes more frightening than any visible threat. That uncertainty allows paranoia and mistrust to slowly consume every interaction between the characters. Joel Edgerton delivers a quietly commanding performance while Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Riley Keough all contribute to a cast that feels remarkably authentic under impossible circumstances. Rather than relying on conventional scares, the film finds its greatest strength in portraying how fear alone can dismantle even the strongest sense of humanity. Despite how much I admired the film's restraint, it also prevented me from completely investing in the story. The pacing occasionally left me wanting just a little more momentum even as I continued to appreciate the confidence behind Shults' direction. Looking back, I could easily justify rating the film slightly higher because so much of what it attempts is executed with conviction. It Comes at Night may not have completely resonated with me on an emotional level, but it stands as an intelligent horror film that trusts atmosphere, performances, and psychological tension over pure spectacle.
