But Boy, it is still my favourite because it is gritty and dark and turns the focus away from punching nazis (which is not bad. I love a good throw at a nazi). But Temple of Doom is different in so many ways but still true to the original material. It is a perfect sequel. Erm sorry, prequel to a perfect movie.

But the story never quite captures the same magic for me. It's an entertaining adventure with memorable action sequences, yet it lacks the sense of wonder and discovery that made “Raiders of the Lost Ark” such a classic. It's well worth watching, but I still think Raiders is the better film.

- RichardApril 21, 2026I first saw Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at a drive‑in cinema with my parents when I was about twelve and it hit completely differently from Raiders. Even at that age, you could feel right away that this one was darker, louder and a lot more intense. The opening is fun and flashy, but once the story shifts to India, the whole tone changes and sitting there in the car, watching it on that huge outdoor screen, made it feel even bigger. Harrison Ford is still at his best as Indy, but this time he’s thrown into something that feels more like a nightmare adventure: underground cults, dangerous rituals and a villain who doesn’t mess around. Short Round brings heart and energy and Willie Scott adds the chaotic comic relief, but the movie never really lets you relax. It pushes the action and the danger harder than the first film ever did. It’s the kind of movie that sticks with you because of how you first experienced it. Seeing it at a drive‑in, the giant screen, the night air made the darker moments hit even harder. Temple of Doom is bold, intense and unforgettable and for a lot of us, it was the moment we realized Indiana Jones movies could go to some pretty wild places.

Replacing Marion with the annoying Willy was a catastrophic decision that really drags things down. Even so, it’s still packed with wild moments that make it worth watching

- Tom MajskiDecember 30, 2025Im going to just say it. Temple of Doom is a straight up horror movie. Yes its the weird one of the trilogy but its good because of it. The tribal cultist stuff is creepy to perfection. Theres some genuinely unsettling stuff that just ends up working really well because its Indi and Spielberg knows what he's doing. Visually its amazing. The set designs are something else. It feels like it was made back when there were still mysteries in the world to discover. As an entry level horror movie its a must for older kids too.
