The entire mystery box, of why dont they show the daughter was probably the only thing that kept me sitting through the entire slog and then, it was just a misdirect - whoops no reason i guess f you audience! no fck you film maker, lame.

Not just in its themes and story beats but the direction is full of very close up, intimate shots of faces that can be uncomfortable. There's a goofyness and an etherealness within the thread but the weave is so perfectly spun and those moments help the viewers allows reality to colour the images. Very, very good.

And while so many elements of her story are unique (not to mention psychotic/surreal), it feels very much like the experience of occupying life as a caregiver in an uncaring world. Visceral directorial choices from Mary Bronstein. Rose Byrne astonishes, with very credible performances from A$AP Rocky and Conan O’Brien. An enjoyably unenjoyable film.

I decided to watch it after hearing some buzz from festivals, but I went in not really knowing what to expect. I'm very glad I did, because what I found was a deeply unique film that experiments with storytelling techniques in bold and fascinating ways. I'll try to be as clear as possible about the story without revealing too much.
