The controversial left wing icon and writer, Jan Myrdal, is at the place in life he's feared the most. Since an early age he's been possessed with his own death and has been outspoken with the ambition to end his life himself. The time will be ripe once his sex life has faltered and the intellect doesn't allow meaningful work anymore. All with the intent to avoid becoming an average Joe. Jan readily admits that there's not much to his love life anymore but still feels that he has something to give as a writer. Something which meets unexpected opposition from those who should be his closest supporters. Namely the Myrdal Society and his benefactor the millionaire businessman and communist Lasse Diding. According to them Jan is dement and can't write anything worthwhile anymore, Lasse has even offered to pay for a visit to a suicide clinic. Feeling the pressure Jan sets out to accomplish one last feat, he's going to write his final masterpiece before he dies.
