This one snuck up on me. A sci-fi thriller set on a barren desert planet, it follows the surviving crew of the spaceship Prometheus as they hunt down a dangerous alien prisoner. But here’s the twist, the prisoner might not be the villain. What starts as a chase turns into a slow burn game of cat and mouse, with shifting allegiances and surprisingly solid world building. Directed by Sandy Collora (yes, the guy behind that legendary Batman: Dead End fan film), this movie punches way above its budget. The costumes are gritty, the cinematography is sharp and the desert setting gives it a Star Wars: Tatooine meets Predator vibe. The dialogue leans heavy on exposition, but the tension builds nicely and the final reveal actually lands. I streamed it and stayed glued till the end. It’s not flashy, but it’s focused. A tight, character driven sci-fi that proves you don’t need a Marvel budget to tell a compelling story. Hunter Prey is a pleasant surprise, smart, scrappy and atmospheric.
