This award-winning independent film is the directorial, screen, and debut from singer-songwriter and performer, Deejay Young, best known for his work in the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical HAMILTON, as well as NBC's Emmy-winning music competition series, The Voice. Captured by Emmy® Award Winning cinematographer Herb Maximo, 'HISstory: PRIMITIVE' is a coming of age story, filled with chapters chronicling the importance of self-love, freedom and liberation, told through the lens of R&B rooted music, dance, and breathtaking visuals. More than simply a music video anthology, the film is a cinematic retelling of Young's chart topping album, PRIMITIVE, which debuted at #4 on the U.S. R&B Albums Chart on iTunes in 2020. The film also features elements of intimate dialogue, original choreography and spoken word by Young, and behind the scenes footage inspired by making of the film, which went on to win Critics' Pick at the Tampa Bay Art and Film Festival in 2023.
