The Philadelphia Story has better acting, but I honestly enjoyed this romp more. Only movie I didn’t love Grace Kelly, though, so there’s that. Bing & Celeste shoulder the load. Frank’s just, well, FRANK.
Rachel's Reviews (YouTube)
Rachel Wagner
A really well done remake with a great cast. Love Louis Armstrong gets to be in the movie with his band
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Edward Kosmal
It starts off at a listless, unflattering pace, but before the show is over, the Technicolor VistaVision musical is resuscitated, finishing off with a flair.
Common Sense Media
Andrea Beach
Charming, boozy musical remake has less screwball humor.

Scored by Cole Porter, this musical version of the famous play is an all-star, mildly entertaining film, featuring the iconic song True Love and Grace Kelly in her last role.
Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews
Dennis Schwartz
The original story is bumbled but Cole Porter's original score is a welcome addition.
New York Times
Bosley Crowther
High Society...is as flimsy as a gossip-columnist's word, especially when it is documenting the weird behavior of the socially elite.
Austin Chronicle
Marjorie Baumgarten
A musical remake of The Philadelphia Story, High Society features Cole Porter tunes, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby, and Grace Kelly in her final acting role.
Movie Mom
Nell Minow
Not up to the original, but some nice moments and some great songs, especially Louis Armstrong.
Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)
Ken Hanke
Overlit, staged like a high school play, but saved by the cast and Cole Porter songs
Kalamazoo Gazette
James Sanford
"often hailed as a classic -- but it's really not"
ReelViews
James Berardinelli
The two chief pleasures of High Society are the performances, which bring life and vitality to the characters, and the music, which makes this the kind of movie that never loses its appeal.
