Grudge Match Ratings & Reviews
- Mister ArnMay 22, 2025Boxing is the movie's theme, but it is about redemption from past mistakes. Unfortunately, Grudge Match didn't make me care about either front. This movie was made to sell on the strength of its aging stars, not its content. It might have been better if they canceled the fight
- 匚卂尺ㄥFebruary 8, 2025Really good film. I liked the story the dialog the still and media captures of the characters in their prime. The one thing that let the film down for me was the fight itself. Yes I am an unapologetic Stallone fan and love all the Rocky movies. The problem for me was in the Grudge match Stallone seemed to lose all his boxing technique, just throwing wild punches dropping his hands with every shot. I have to complement De Niro as he actually tried to show some semblance of boxing ducking and countering then going for the big left or right. However every time they showed him he looked his age, in fact during the fight he looked 20 year older. The story (small spoilers). Razor (Stallone) and The Kid (De Niro) have fought twice in the past each winning over the other. Both are local heroes in Pittsburgh, and legends worldwide. Just before their rubber match Razor suddenly and inexplicitly announces his retirement. Years later their lives have taken drastically different routes the only thing they have in comment is that they hate and can't stand each other. Though both of them are way past their prime a YouTube release gone viral generates huge interest for them both to fight again. An extremely enjoyable film, especially for fans of Stallone or De Niro. There are also guest appearances for commentators, boxers, and MMA fighters. Just a little disappointing in the final fight which is the only reason I had to take a star away.
