- mickerdooAugust 20, 2025Despite beautiful animation and a tragic story, this one just felt too redundant to me.
- ProfSolonAugust 17, 2025Seriously what the fuck. This is sad. I always hated anime, thinking it was cringy. Sexualized youngans but my wife showed me it's more than that.
- LivewireAdminAugust 6, 2025I really don't know what happened here but I didn't love this? I fully expected this movie to move me seeing as it's not only a Studio Ghibli film but it's on Letterboxd's Top 250 Narrative Feature Films list. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm pretty empathetic, I will cry/tear up at movies, at TV shows.....but when the credits rolled on this I really didn't feel anything. It's obviously a sad story and I don't think it has to do with the story being told in animation - I get emotional when watching Up and The Land Before Time. Not only was I not moved but I also found the story to be pretty boring? The story of a boy looking after her sister during the final months of WWII has all the makings for a story to pull on your heart-strings. I wonder if I disconnected with the story a bit due to the fact that some of the decisions made by the boy didn't resonate with me? Look I understand that some family can be harsh but when it's between living with a family member who is cruel and living on the streets with no food, you gotta suck it up for a bit until things get better. This is also the first Ghibli movie I've seen, not directed by Miyazaki. Now that man knows how to tell a story. Ugh, I was hoping the Top 250 list was gonna be all bangers but I guess that's why every movie is subjective.
- NonPlayableContentJune 14, 2025You know its sad when the community is warning you.
