The introduction of Mecha Godzilla to the franchise. A great entry to end the Showa Era.

A good film absolutely ruined by a truly abhorent English dub track. Sorry Toho, but your 70’s eng dub sucks…

Featuring one of the freshest intros made in Godzilla history by Mecha G, Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla was part of the final chapter of the superhero era in the classic Showa line of Godzilla films. Mecha Godzilla is one the most badass robotic villains in cinema. Terrorizing Godzilla with his laser projecting eye beams, his laser canon in his chest along with his missile shooting claws, oh and his rocket propelled feet. Did I also mention he can create a force field around himself? No one Godzilla had to team up with King Ceaser, an ancient guardian monster. It’s cheesy, it bombastic, it’s the one of the best of the Showa era of Toho films

I only knew Mechagodzilla from his later incarnations and had no idea how ridiculous his Showa origin was. I understand now why this one is still celebrated despite arguably being the most dated--it has all the energy the other late showa era films seem to lack, and the drawn out escalating battle was wonderfully ridiculous. The human plot was predictably nonsensical but was entertaining nevertheless, and that's better than usual. All around great fun.
