“From Hell to Victory” tells the sprawling tale of six friends from different nations who, in 1939, on the eve of World War II, vow to reunite each year. The film ambitiously follows each of them through the major events of the war, but the breadth of its scope makes it hard to fully invest in any one character. Still, it has moments of flair and remains watchable, leaving the impression that it might have worked even better as a miniseries.
