Friday the 13th: The New Blood Ratings & Reviews
- RyezooFebruary 15, 2025Cool concept. Poorly executed. Telekinesis could of really been a cool factor, instead its laughably bad. This Jason's kills are lame. Mullet mom and lame doctor are in this way to much. One of the worst instalments so far.
- Carlos IbarraApril 10, 2025For many years this stood as my favorite of the series. It's just fun and the most comic-booky. Stepping back, objectively, it suffers a bit from being overly cheesy and having a stupid conclusion. But none of this matters, I still love it. It has some great, creative kills, a really cool design for Jason and the fun addition of pitting Jason against Carrie.
- domentedcowJune 27, 2025It’s alright. The first Friday the 13th film to go completely off the rails, and it’s not for the better. The censorship boards also absolutely murdered this film and all of its good kills and gore.
- Jacob O’NealJune 13, 2025John Carl Buechler takes over as director for the seventh installment in the film series. Best known as a well respected special effects guy who could find ways to make something out of nothing in the low budget horror world. I interviewed him years ago. He talked quite fondly of his time shooting this movie, much more so than the Munchies movie he made. He was very proud of the great Kane Hodder as the new and arguably the best Jason, specifically the fire stunt. Not only was it the longest burn record for a movie at the time, but Hodder had also suffered third degree burns and nearly died from a fire stunt gone wrong when he was younger. Knowing that the man conquered his fears and set a record in the process is a wonderful expression of the triumph of the human spirit. Lar Park Lincoln stars in the film as a telekinetic taken back to the cabin where accidentally killed her father as a child. The therapist, played devilishly by Terry Kiser, was fantastic. In fact, the best part is that he was a villain to Lincoln just as much, but in different ways, as Jason himself. That was a smart move on the writer’s part. And the telekinesis was something that was now on the table since Jason is now supernatural. The other characters in the movie are weak and interchangeable…till they’re killed, anyway. As a director Buechler was very adept as crafting a well made and fun film in this franchise. The script did lack in places, but the good thing is that no one cares that much in a movie with Jason, blood and boobs. Terry Kiser steals the show amongst the mortal cast. He was just a little less sleazy than Bernie in his most famous role in Weekend At Bernie’s. I always thought it would be interesting if he really didn’t die and the government changed his identity and paid him to keep his mouth shut about Jason. He used that money to become the rich businessman in Weekend At Bernie’s only to die and have his body used as a prop by two bumbling idiots. There’s more good news about this film for all straight men or girls who like girls - the boobs are back! More good news - Kane Hodder begins his reign as the man who has played Jason more than anyone. This means he’s played Jason, Michael (short film by Adam Green), Freddy (glove coming through sand in Jason Goes To Hell), Leatherface (video game) and Adam Green’s Victor Crowley since the beginning. He finally got a character that is only his. He deserved it. Hodder will go on to make three more films in the series after this, only to be recast in Freddy Vs. Jason. #KaneDeservedBetter. Join me next time when we discuss the high 80’s hair of Kelly Hu in part 8, where Jason goes to Canada and the Big Apple for a New York minute (see what I did there?). And remember, I will be sharing my rankings of the entire official film series in the review for the reboot. See you there.
