When Commander Adams and his crew are sent to investigate why there were no communications from a previous mission to a planet explored 20 years earlier by scientists, he finds only two survivors, Dr. Morbius and his daughter. Unknown to Adams, Morbius has made a discovery, a discovery of great power, and has no intention of sharing it with anyone.

Excellent movie that paved the way for Sci—Fi movies and TV shows

Love it! Anne Francis is stunning, and Leslie Nielsen's Commander Adams is solid. Forbidden Planet pioneered several aspects of science fiction cinema (it was the first science fiction film to depict humans traveling in a man-made faster-than-light starship; it was also the first to be set entirely on a planet orbiting another star, far away from Earth and the Solar System). The Robby the Robot character is one of the first film robots that was more than just a mechanical "tin can" on legs; Robby displays a distinct personality and is an integral supporting character in the film. Outside science fiction, the film was groundbreaking as the first of any genre to use an entirely electronic musical score, courtesy of Bebe and Louis Barron. It's no secret that this film would inspire Gene Roddenberry to create "Star Trek" just a decade later. Highly recommended for any sci-fi fan!

Classic sci fi still on my watch list for repeats

Classic sci-fi from the mid 1950's based on Shakespeare's 'The Tempest', amazing effects and very well written for the era.

After a rather slow first act, Forbidden planet picks up the pace and gives us a wonderful example of what sci-fi is all about. Mixing philosophical musings with action spectacle and amazing visual and special effects. It reminds me so much of the original Star trek series, and why I love it so much. This must have been an inspiration for Gene Roddenberry.

“Forbidden Planet” treats science fiction as serious dramatic territory rather than a novelty or gimmick. Its core idea, that unchecked intellect combined with repressed emotion can become destructive, is thoughtful and still relevant. The film holds up not because it looks modern, but because its underlying message endures.

The movie looks beautiful, has amazing philosophical ideas, and the robot Robby is adorable and I love it! The soundtrack is so amazingly retro sci-fi that I want whoever produced it to play it to me while I sleep. Well, after watching this film... maybe I shouldn't.

This is the Citizen Kane of science-fiction and should not be skipped
