Women, children and the elderly were joined by the thousands of republican soldiers who, little by little, and seeing defeat approach, deserted. This is the love story of William and Mary, a republican soldier and his beloved during their flight to France, but also that of the more than 460,000 refugees who crossed the French border that winter.
