- mhamreus2026年1月20日Encino Man is the movie that launched Pauly Shore and still stands as his most recognizable work. This is Shore at the source. The persona is raw, loud, and somehow still charming before it became self parody. Sean Astin is locked in on one goal. Popularity. He wants it so badly it borders on painful. Shore could not care less. He is floating through life on a cloud of exaggerated California hippie stereotypes, fully committed to the bit and absolutely convinced he is having a great time. The magic is that both of them are total outsiders. Different flavors of uncool, sharing the same lunch table. That dynamic is what makes the movie click. They are polar opposites, equally unpopular, and unknowingly perfect foils for each other. Then Brendan Fraser shows up as Link, the caveman who accidentally becomes the coolest guy in school without trying. Fraser plays it straight, physical, and sincere, which somehow grounds a movie that includes frozen cavemen, mall montages, and a delivery of one of the most immortal lines of the decade. “Wheezing the juice.” It is dumb. It is perfect. It is 90s comedy burned into collective memory. That one line alone tells you exactly what kind of movie this is and why it stuck. Could this movie be made today. No chance. Does it care. Not even a little.
- Recordedsnake2026年1月17日Encino Man (aka California Man) is a gloriously silly slice of ’90s nostalgia that knows exactly what it is and leans in hard. Brendan Fraser is endlessly charming as Link, the thawed-out caveman trying to survive high school, delivering pure physical comedy with a huge heart. The movie is dumb in the best way, with, surf rock vibes, and fish-out-of-water jokes that still land because the cast commits 100%. It’s not trying to be deep; it’s trying to be fun, and it absolutely succeeds. Comfort-movie status unlocked.

- Mike Martins2025年6月13日Encino Man tries to be a quirky fish-out-of-water comedy, but much of it feels dated, loud, and ultimately shallow. While the concept has potential—a caveman thawed out in modern-day California—the execution leans too heavily on exaggerated stereotypes and slapstick rather than genuine laughs or meaningful character development. Pauly Shore’s performance is either a nostalgic hit or an acquired taste, depending on your tolerance for '90s surfer lingo and endless "buddy" talk. The movie does have its moments, especially with Brendan Fraser’s physical comedy as the unfrozen caveman adapting to the '90s. But those few sparks aren't enough to carry the entire film. It’s the kind of movie that might work better in the background at a throwback party than during a serious movie night. 🎬 Fun Fact: Brendan Fraser was cast just three days before filming began and did most of his own stunts—some of which involved eating bugs and raw meat on set! Talk about commitment to the role. --- Not quite extinct, but maybe it should have stayed frozen.
