Dredd Ratings & Reviews
- XDragokingApril 30, 2025Ok so full disclosure, part of me REALLY liked the Stallone one more and I know that’s probably a sin, but I ranked this one higher on a lot of technical and action levels. The action was crisp, the writing was very good at times yet standard for the genre at others, it both felt like the perfect Dredd movie yet not a Dredd movie at all and I actually loved that. Karl Urban was fantastic in his role and Olivia Thirlby played a great companion to it. Urban brought character to a guy who really doesn’t have one and that’s extremely commendable work, with Wood Harris and Lena Headey as great baddies. It was a fun, action packed and very well shot film and a really nice change of pace for a comic book film to play out more like a thriller than an adventure.

- mayar900May 16, 2025I'm the type of person who doesn't like action movies, but this movie is very nice and the ending is nice.
- KylgraveApril 6, 2025Superb flick
- RyezooFebruary 15, 2025The slow motion is so awesome in this movie.
- fam382June 26, 2025Pretty close to the comics
- Rowan KrzysiakMay 11, 2025It covers a lot of ground in a very short runtime but very little if anything goes to waste. The world building and the character development is done with the utmost efficiency and the set-up allows for a fun sometimes visually stunning romp. It's a must for 3D if available. One criticism I would throw at it is that the main antagonist feels badly cast. She looks and feels like and actress in make-up lacking the necessary presence and intimidation.

- Thomas AdkinsMarch 16, 2025Good action movie!
- Hipster ZOMBIEMarch 4, 2025Dredd is the second action-packed adaptation of the legendary Judge Dredd comics. Directed by Pete Travis and written by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later), the film plunges viewers into the dystopian wasteland of Mega-City One, where law enforcers known as Judges serve as judge, jury, and executioner. Karl Urban stars as Judge Dredd, perfectly capturing his cold, no-nonsense demeanor with a performance that relies more on presence than words—never once removing his iconic helmet, staying true to the source material. Olivia Thirlby plays Judge Anderson, a rookie with powerful psychic abilities, whose character arc adds depth and contrast to Dredd’s hardened personality. The film’s antagonist, Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), is a ruthless drug lord who controls a 200-story high-rise slum, making for a contained yet intensely violent battleground. Despite its simple plot—a siege-style story reminiscent of The Raid (2011)—the film excels in world-building, atmosphere, and relentless action.
- VarunOctober 19, 2024I liked how gory this movie dared to be, and the vibes and vfx were cool but I got bored midway. There’s hardly any character backstories so I didn’t find myself connecting to any of them. Dredd is built up to be this stoic badass juggernaut, which he is, but it comes off as very flat to me when that’s his personality throughout the entire runtime. People compare this to The Raid, but it’s not even close when it comes to the action, it’s just the premise being the same of a cop battling his way through levels of an apartment block. This is a decent entertaining film to pass the time with friends, but seeing it alone was a mediocre experience for me.
