Abigail

Still think this would have been an even better experience if the trailer and marketing didn’t reveal Abigail’s “secret,” but this was pretty awesome as it is. Alisha Weir is so good at the center of it all expressing a ton of range and embodying an impressively physical performance. Favorite moments are when she’s chasing the crew through the house pliéing and pirouetting around obstacle in the house. Entire supporting cast is great as well. Melissa Barrera, Katheryn Newton and Dan Stevens in particular all have great moments. Bloody and gory in all the best ways with a story that takes enough turns to keep you guessing. Great stuff
- rg9400November 1, 2024I found this movie entertaining, though not nearly as good as Ready or Not. A good chunk of the beginning of the movie is dedicated to setup, assuming there will be tension regarding what the actual premise of the movie is in regard to the girl they kidnap. However, the trailers spoiled this aspect of the movie, so I found the beginning setup to be a bit slow. Once it kicks into gear though, the movie alternates between the type of fun horror I've come to expect from these creators, though sometimes it takes itself a bit too seriously. The motivations, development, and drama between all the characters end up not being very important, so I feel like the movie could have ignored some of those aspects entirely instead of trying to build them and then have characters make actions that do not align with those backstories at all (or have those backstories become fully irrelevant). But when the movie shifts away from a lot of this setup and embraces its pulpy, over-the-top core, it ends up being a ton of fun. I loved seeing Dan Stevens and Alisha Weir fully embrace their roles, and there is plenty of gore and silliness that works really well. I just think Ready or Not was a more balanced and complete movie that still managed to lean into these aspects more, but this isn't bad and ends up still being better than their two Scream movies.

- DJOctober 17, 2024Abigail is a diamond in the rough when it comes to Vampire films. It doesn't take itself to seriously yet manages to provide solid scares, violent kills and laughter throughout. Expect to laugh, jump and be thoroughly entertained.

There are some choices made, and I don’t really care for how the third act goes down, but that doesn’t take away from the movie as a whole from being an enjoyable time

- VarunOctober 19, 2024I just put this on to pass some time but I really enjoyed it. Melissa Barrera is an absolute badass and I’m glad to see her getting roles outside of the Scream franchise. I’ve also missed Dan Stevens since Legion and I was happy to see him back. The movie has a great balance between fun silly humour and horror. Usually in these films, there’s always one or two annoying characters that I absolutely don’t care about but here I liked all of them. Kevin Durand looks like a muscular Elon Musk and plays a dumb character so I couldn’t get that funny resemblance out of my mind lol. The ending also has some nice unconventional twists. My only two criticisms is that there isn’t enough lore on the horror elements and I also think the kills could’ve been a bit more innovative. Alisha Weir played Abigail menacingly well and I was thoroughly entertained throughout the entire runtime. On a final note, it was nice but also tough to see one last performance by Angus Cloud, he was really funny in the role and had such good talent. Rest In Peace 😭
