Double Take Ratings & Reviews
jackmeat
October 22, 2024
My quick rating - 5.3/10. Still a pretty funny flick. If you can put aside the sheer absurdity of the story itself, you'll be entertained. This is the wisecracking street thug helping out the clueless rich guy story. Then sprinkle in all kinds of undercover officers, backstabbing, etc. to the point where you really have to just wash your hands of plausibility and just go with it. Even when it is all wrapped up, they keep chucking more impossibilities at ya. Remember when Eddie Griffin was that guy? Yeah, those 15 minutes didn't last long.

Double Take is so convoluted, so unnecessarily mind-boggling, it should be called Quintuple Take.
Common Sense Media
Nell Minow
Violent waste of talent.
Newsday
Gene Seymour
Wickedly funny.
Houston Chronicle
The movie has more product placements than halftime at the Super Bowl.
Detroit Free Press
John Monaghan
Throw two very different people together. Then put them on the run, shot at by both police and bad guys. The recipe has produced some funny movies. Double Take isn't one of them.
Philadelphia Inquirer
Carrie Rickey
Frequently funnier than it has any right to be.
San Francisco Chronicle
Peter Stack
A mess of half-baked gags in an uneasy mix of buddy film and on-the-road adventure.
Boston Globe
Jay Carr
Gallo has delivered a clever suspense comedy that, thanks to a taut script, creative direction, and first-rate performances from its leads.

The legendary British novelist is probably turning over in his grave at being associated with this witless farrago.

If you doze or play your GameBoy for an hour or so in the middle of the movie, you might find it an agreeable time-waster.
Chicago Sun-Times
Roger Ebert
Double Take is the kind of double-triple-reverse movie that can drive you nuts because you can't count on anything in the plot.
New York Times
Elvis Mitchell
A shell game passing as entertainment.
Los Angeles Times
David Chute
As if to compensate for this lack of focus, all the spats are enacted at maximum volume, pitched so high that we often don't know how to take them.
Washington Post
Michael O'Sullivan
The first hour of the story, whose rampant unexplained mysteries will leave you scratching your head in wonderment.

Botched on every count.

The kind of movie you'll encounter in the wasteland of late-night cable -- and watch with a measure of awe.
Entertainment Weekly
Owen Gleiberman
Another racial cartoon buddy movie that eagerly flogs its best laugh -- indeed, its only laugh -- in the trailer.
