The action is situated in one of those Soviet apartments with shared kitchen and bathroom. The story starts when the building is inaugurated in 1935 and the new neighbors (the Davydov and Volynsky families, plus a geologist and his wife) arrive, ending in 1950, after World War II. The daily life of all of them is shown with their joys and their sorrows. We will see their children grow up and how the war affects their daily chores.
