Childhood favorite still funny. I wish the fat boys would’ve made more movies.

One of the good movies from the '80s that never got full recognition

Review by someone who was fed pizza by the actual Fat Boys and therefore knows cinema Not to date myself, but this movie? Cultural event. Y’all probably never even heard of it. But I watched this movie religiously as a kid because—no big deal—I literally grew up around the corner from the Fat Boys, and yes, they bought us pizza sometimes. You think Oppenheimer ever bought me a slice? Didn’t think so. This movie is pure comfort food, in every sense. It’s about three lovable, chaotic guys who accidentally become orderlies for a rich old white man—and instead of killing him (like one might expect from three human hurricanes in scrubs), they somehow give him a reason to live. It’s goofy, it’s sweet, and it made sense to me as a kid in a way that probably wouldn’t hold up under the cold scrutiny of adulthood… but you know what? I don’t care. • The Fat Boys had surprising chemistry • There was eating (a lot of it) • There was joy • And there was this weird, funky morality tale about how money’s not everything, but a pizza party with friends just might be Do I remember every plot detail? No. Do I trust that it aged gracefully? Also no. But do I cherish this movie in the sacred VHS vault of my mind? ABSOLUTELY. Until I rewatch and potentially ruin it, this one stays in my golden childhood memory box labeled: “Surprisingly wholesome chaos.”
