In 1964, the then 20-year-old Wolfgang Welsch tried to leave the GDR, was arrested at the border and then got to know six GDR prisons in seven years of imprisonment. After his ransom to the West in 1971, he helped over 200 GDR citizens to flee until 1984. The documentary "The Power of the Stasi - Hunt for an Enemy of the State", which ZDFinfo first broadcast on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at 5:15 p.m., describes how the GDR's state security planned the murder of Wolfgang Welsch in the Skorpion operation. He survived several assassination attempts, including a poisoning attempt in Israel.
