Dicks: The Musical Ratings & Reviews
Ryezoo
February 4, 2025
There is some funny scenes here but that doesn’t salvage it. Nathan Lane and Megan Thee Stallion killed it. But boy this is bizarre and really dumb at times. I don’t know what’s weirder the sewarboys or a flying vagina.
Austin Chronicle
Jenny Nulf
Dicks: The Musical seems like a fun, boundary-pushing LGBTQIA+ romp, but there's no juice.
FilmWeek (LAist)
Christy Lemire
Incredibly raunchy, profane, and so knowingly over the top... It's truly inspired, but not for everyone.
Boston Globe
Odie Henderson
Like a bender, this type of cult movie is more memorable in the moment than it is the morning after.
Detroit News
Adam Graham
Dicks: The Musical tries really, really hard to be outrageous, and it succeeds. But finding substance beneath that outrageousness is a whole other song and dance.
Washington Post
Michael O'Sullivan
This self-conscious yet unapologetic embrace of the film's, er, rough edges is one of its charms, which are modest but not negligible.
Seattle Times
Soren Andersen
All you're left with at the end is a sense of boredom. The harder it tries, the more tedious it becomes.
Crooked Marquee
Kimber Myers
It's possibly the most deranged movie of the last decade, which I mean as both a compliment and a warning.
GQ
Esther Zuckerman
Lane and Mullally are national treasures who'll go to any length for a laugh, and Megan Thee Stallion's willingness to get involved with this whole thing just makes me love her even more.
NPR
Glen Weldon
While Dicks: The Musical is a lot of dumb fun and the songs mostly work, the film is locked in a struggle with itself that's the inevitable result of its origins as a theatrical revue.
Salon.com
Steve Greene
Dicks: The Musical truly comes alive when its rapid-fire joke factory is churning out punchlines that feel specific to this particular movie.
Slant Magazine
Derek Smith
In the instances where it's not going hard, Dicks is a surprisingly flaccid affair.
TIME Magazine
Stephanie Zacharek
Dicks: The Musical confuses making comedy with inflicting it on an audience...
Los Angeles Times
Michael Ordoña
If you like your "Parent Trap" riffs with heaping helpings of horny humor, insane musical numbers and a soupçon of monsters in diapers, then "Dicks: The Musical" may be your jam, especially if blasphemy is your bliss.
AV Club
Manuel Betancourt
Some may revel in its manic musical theater camp (and capital C campy) energy but the shtick runs itself into the ground even before the queered final act reveal turns its subtext into explicit (and graphic) text fitting of its racy title.
TheWrap
Kristen Lopez
"Dicks: The Musical" isn't for everyone and it knows it. But for those seeking something outrageously funny and inventive, it's the perfect cure for what ails you.
New York Magazine/Vulture
Alison Willmore
Its determination to avoid any trace of self-importance or greater meaning is admirable in its own right - embracing the freedom to just be ridiculous.
San Francisco Chronicle
G. Allen Johnson
Charles is perfect for the material: Imagine "Little Shop of Horrors" as conceived by some combination of John Waters and a gay version of Russ Meyer.
New York Times
Elisabeth Vincentelli
Despite brief instances when it spills into surreal madness, most notably in a scene set in a sewer, the film is rudderless - which is a polite way to say limp.
Chicago Reader
Maxwell Rabb
Ultimately, Dicks: The Musical's desire for cult-classic status is its biggest downfall, because that's not how a movie procures that title.
