One of those surprise movies that you normally wouldn't click on but happy when you did. I think it flew under the radar because it was released around the same time as Top Gun Maverick. Based on a true story about the first black American fighter pilot. Fun fact, the director already had the score done when they were filming and, like Dune part 2, it kninda shows.

Not that bad😁. Well worth the time. But if you’re looking for hours of flight action this is not for you.

Well-Made, but Lacking Spark "Devotion" is a sincere and well-intentioned film that aims to balance emotional weight with large-scale spectacle, but it doesn't always manage to fully connect the two. There's clear care in the way the story is told, and the film never feels cynical, yet it often struggles to rise above a familiar and somewhat restrained execution. The performances are solid across the board, bringing credibility and dignity to the characters. There's a genuine attempt to explore themes of sacrifice, loyalty, and recognition, and at its best the film does convey quiet emotional resonance. However, that depth is only partially realized, as the script tends to stay on safe ground rather than digging deeper into its most compelling ideas. Technically, the film is well made. The aerial sequences and overall production values are strong, delivering moments that are visually impressive and immersive. Unfortunately, these highlights are offset by a narrative that feels a bit too conventional and emotionally distant at times, making the experience less impactful than it could have been. "Devotion" is a respectable and watchable film with moments of strength, but it never fully takes flight. It's engaging enough to hold interest, yet leaves the sense that something more powerful was just out of reach.

Devotion is based on true events and tells the story of two U.S. Navy pilots during the Korean War: Jesse Brown, the Navy's first African American aviator, and Tom Hudner, his partner and friend. The film strikes a good balance between human drama and stunning aerial sequences: the flight scenes are visually breathtaking and help convey the risk and camaraderie that develops between the characters. The cast is well-assembled, with performances that sustain both tense and more introspective moments, delving into themes of friendship, sacrifice, and overcoming adversity. It's not a groundbreaking biopic, and at times it follows a classic formula of the war genre, but the power of the true story and the way it humanizes its protagonists make it worthwhile. My rating: 8/10.

I dare you to ask me if I only watched this because of Glen Powell! 😍🤫

Devotion is a crowd pleasing inspirational drama that depicts the true story of Korean war heros Jesse Brown (Jonathan Majors), the first aviator of color to complete the Navy’s basic training program, and his wingman, Tim Hudner (Glenn Powell). It’s pretty standard fare as far as inspirational true stories go, but does have some beautiful aerial sequences that look fantastic on the big screen. The element that really stands out here is the friendship between Brown and Hudner. Powell and Majors have chemistry for days and it truly carries the film. It is the hook that gets you emotionally invested in this story.  Worth checking out in the theater.

A very well told, if a little askew story. Wiki the main characters to find at least a portion of the truth.
