When he is unexpectedly invited to Russia by a distant relative, Princess Wirsky, he finance the trip by hiring himself out as a messenger for revolutionaries who want to overthrow Grand Duke Wirsky. In Moscow he delivers the news and falls in love with the revolutionary's daughter, Marja. But Marja's father loves Princess Wirsky and wants to betray the revolutionaries.
