The zombie apocalypse has hit Earth. Two personnel from a TV station and two policemen set off in a helicopter to find a safe place to hide out. Their search leads them to a shopping mall where they manage to find a place that, while not zombie-free, is quite secure. So far, so good.

Quite simply the greatest zombie movie of all time. Is it dated now with unrealistic looking practical affects... yes... but really who cares. I first saw Dawn of the Dead about 25 years ago and few movies have ever affected me this way this one did. There was just something about the rawness and guerilla film making that got me. The color palette is amazing with the 1970s mall being the back drop and the obviously over the top bright red fake blood being spilled in buckets. Romero loves a good commentary as well. What's the difference between the zombies and the mindless people who flock to these malls... not much in his opinion. In fact it's still pretty relevant to this day with how people spend hours staring at their cell phones. The characters are great also. It's not a masterclass in acting by any means but everyone plays their part perfectly, Ken Foree in particular stands out as Peter. He processes everything fairly quickly due to his police training, always stays level headed and knows how to act under pressure. More than anything this movie is just fun. It's the opposite of Night of the Living Dead in terms of tone. Romero just wants everyone to sit back and have a good time while he drops a little social commentary on them. Likely why Day of the Dead is so serious and dread inducing. If you want to see a ton of zombies and have fun with our protaganists as they navigate the apocalypse inside a "state of the art" shopping mall this movie is for you. Honestly the mall alone and the nostalgia behind it is enough to recommend this movie. It's just on mayhem. Every time you think wtf did I just watch something else happens to make you say... okay wtf did I just watch... Dawn of the Dead 10/10

The original OG. But for me the 2004 jack Snyder remake is my all time favourite. When the zombies could start to run and chase you 😁

One of the perfect zombie movies, alongside the likes of Return of the Living Dead (1985), Day of the Dead (1985), Shaun of the Dead (2004), 28 Days Later (2002), and Train to Busan (2016)
