Dallas Buyers Club Ratings & Reviews
- flavo43December 6, 2025Dallas Buyers Club (2013) is a gripping historical drama that captures both the personal and societal struggles of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s. Led by Matthew McConaughey in a transformative performance as Ron Woodroof, the film tells the story of an unlikely hero who, after his diagnosis, defies prejudice and bureaucracy to provide life-saving medication to himself and others. McConaughey’s portrayal is raw and compelling, balancing grit with vulnerability, while Jared Leto delivers an equally powerful performance as Rayon, adding emotional depth and humanity to the narrative. The film succeeds in highlighting the lack of sympathy and understanding during that era, not only from society but also from government institutions. With its sharp storytelling, nuanced characters, and unflinching look at injustice, Dallas Buyers Club is both heartbreaking and inspiring—a testament to resilience in the face of tragedy and systemic indifference.
- jan5198October 25, 2025Amazing. McConaughey's acting is extraordinary and his commitment to Ron Woodroof's character... relentless. I was actually surprised to see how horrible he looked in this movie which goes to show the lengths that he went to to become Ron and stay true to who he was as a person. Jared Leto's supporting character, Rayon, is absolutely fabulous as well. By assuming the quintessential juxtaposition to Ron's macho character in the beginning, to his fierce and determined friendship that slides seamlessly alongside McConaughey throughout, it is not until the end when the viewer can truly appreciate Rayon as the beautifully flawed mirror reflecting both the strengths and weaknesses of Woodroof and ultimately, him being the conduit for McConaughey's character's growth .
- pipanniSeptember 11, 2025An amazing performance by Matthew McConaughey and a story well worth telling. All the cast bring their A-game and the movie pulls no punches in showing you some hard realities, either from ilness or from greedy corporations.
- Daryl WilliamsSeptember 2, 2025Great film. Amazing story. Acting and writing is on point 🙂
- tellumAugust 21, 2025The movie has very mixed messaging. It tries to portray Matthew’s character as someone who is genuinely helping people, specifically gay people, with HIV. At the same time it shows many exploitive tendencies throughout the film, which makes sense as he is initially a bad person who ends up doing good things for the sake of profit, but he continues being exploitive even after he’s in his redemption arc. The overall acting is good, and this period of history is generally white washed, so it is good to see at least a more balanced take on the subject.
- mickerdooJuly 5, 2025Hits you right in the feels. A great example of the difference between legal/illegal and right/wrong. McConaughey develops well.
- Eric WidderJune 29, 2025An exquisite performance by Matthew M. as always. No screen time is wasted and every scene holds value. Great supporting work by Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner as well as the rest of the cast. The film portrays a classic example of the FDA being in bed with Big Pharma for monetary gain while preventing the little man from succeeding. Matt M.'s character is forced to smuggle non-FDA approved drugs from Mexico, Japan, and other countries in order to provide HIV/AIDS treatment to Dallas residents at an affordable price, as the only alternative treatment comes from the local hospital's toxic dose of AZT. Definitely a must see for Matt's performance alone.
