Creed Ratings & Reviews

I saw this in the cinema with a friend not knowing much about it... I'd never seen any Rocky movies, & didn't know this was related to Rocky. Until he showed up. & Rocky is famous enough that I began to understand the context even without having seen the movies. I knew who Apollo Creed was, too, so that helped put Adonis in place (some great names in this family). Anyway, I loved this film, & after 25 years of avoiding Rocky films, it made me go home & watch ALL of them. The original 1976 is still revolutionary to me to this day, I probably like it even more than Creed despite it being my opener. & I'm totally not objectifying her but omg how many more women on this planet can claim to be hotter than Tessa Thompson in this movie?

The making of a new champion.

Jordan was a stud, physically and as an actor. Thompson is so charming. Easy to welcome Stallone back as Rocky. Still formulaic sports movie, though.

I first saw it back in 2015, and even now it still gives me goosebumps. Michael B. Jordan is magnetic, and Stallone brings that familiar heart and grit that makes the story hit harder. It’s a true continuation of Rocky’s legacy—emotional, powerful, and full of soul. The boxing scenes are thrilling, but it’s the small, quiet moments that really linger. You feel every struggle, every triumph, and the weight of the past passing to the next generation. It’s one of those films that sticks with you long after it’s over.

The best of all of them. Wouldn’t be what it is without the Rocky franchise, but it held its own and was masterfully made.

It’s the best of the Creed franchise by a mile and they’re all pretty good.

Excellent movie that continues the Rocky story but does so through a new protagonist with his own story. Still has some of the tropes of the old movies like training montages and blocking punches with your face, but is filmed in a modern way so it doesn’t feel like a shameless rehash. Acting performances from all 3 leads are some of the best of their careers.

A nice action flick that further carries the Rocky legacy, and does it also with some heart. It's weird to see Rocky as an old man, no longer fighting, but also comforting that he got to be a senior citizen.

A new Rocky for a new generation… Creed is exhilarating, inspiring, emotional, beautifully acted and brilliantly choreographed while also honouring the previous Rocky films lovingly! The respect it shows to the originals is characterised by a moving tribute to the classic Rocky Steps scene that brings a genuine lump to the throat… Every performance in Creed feels so genuine and human. Michael B Jordan inhabits the role of Adonis Creed perfectly! He’s full of confidence and swagger when in the ring, but vulnerability and passion outside of it, especially when he’s with his girlfriend played fantastically by Tessa Thompson. Now, we come to Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa himself… What can I say about this man? Stallone is a legend! In his signature and arguably his most iconic role, he absolutely knocks it out of the park here in what is easily his best performance in his career as an actor! He honestly deserved that Oscar he was nominated for! There is one scene where Rocky is confronted with horrible news and the subtlety of his emotions is unlike anything we’ve seen from Stallone before… He brought genuine tears to my eyes on multiple occasions and he still has that same relatable charm from his younger days as this character. He comes on to the screen with a warm glow and a heavy heart, carrying all the weight of this character. These films have always been as much about Stallone as they are about Rocky, his own life mirroring the character’s inspiring underdog story that we all know and love! The biggest compliment I can give this film is just how human it all feels, you can genuinely feel every ounce of emotion from these two actors pouring through every single shot. The film moves with effortless confidence. The gorgeous cinematography is gritty and realistic, with a stunning grey and black palette. It’s filled with long takes that immerse you in the realism of the world. There is a particular fight that is filmed in an unbroken sequence, with the camera floating to-and-fro amidst the action! The choreography is absolutely stunning to watch as the intensity is unbroken, allowing you to feel the weight of each punch and jab! An unexpected masterpiece!

After the last Rocky movie (Rocky Balboa) I swore never again would I watch Stallone in yet another remake. Still I found myself watching and to my surprise it wasn't bad. Maybe my expectations were so low it, it seemed better than it was. It's a copy of the first film, yet it's also a tribute to all the Rocky films that were remakes before it.
