From the harsh backcountry, a figure emerges: brave and leathered men, fearless because of their own workmanship. "Cowboys" is about the issues facing Brazil's sprawling inland empire, like drought, the regulation of the profession of the "vaqueiros" (cowboys) and the controversy about the "vaquejadas" (a local version of rodeos) that is threatening to change these men's way of life forever.
