Company Town Ratings & Reviews
Luisa Androne
April 18, 2025
Documentary about how infrastructure can be destroyed: strangers with too much money come into a poor country, open a huge company, hire a lot of people, which are happy to earn more money than they earned on their local businesses. This leaves small companies die. Then the huge company leaves, people remain jobless, with not enough money to open new businesses...
Bay Area Reporter
David Lamble
Deborah Kaufman and Alan Snitow offer a provocative peek at the impact of the tech industry on everyday Bay Area life.
Film Threat
Theo Schear
Perhaps the film will inspire somebody powerful to stand up, but more likely it'll become just another anti-Koch doc on in the "Koch Bros Takedowns" genre in your Netflix suggestions.
Pacific Sun (San Rafael, CA)
Richard von Busack
It's a hopeful but necessarily bleak account of the 2015 District 3 supervisor's race between Aaron Peskin and the incumbent Julie Christensen.
Los Angeles Times
Gary Goldstein
A vital, eye-opening portrait.
Counterpunch.org
Louis Proyect
Convincing evidence that the Koch brothers should be put in prison for the rest of their sorry lives. What is the difference between putting arsenic in someone's food or toxins in their water? Not much, actually.
Film Journal International
André Hereford
Makes a powerful case for enforcing federal and state environmental regulations more stringently than they have been at the [Georgia-Pacific] mill.
New York Times
Ben Kenigsberg
Even the rudimentary qualities of the filmmaking (cheap-looking camera work, poorly punctuated title cards) somehow add to its urgency, as if the movie needed to get its message out by any means necessary.
The Hollywood Reporter
John DeFore
Infuriating and, sadly, not at all surprising.
