Cloverfield Ratings & Reviews
- Kevin WardJuly 2, 2025Kids loved Godzilla Minus One, so I thought maybe they would get on with this one. I was kind of surprised they didn’t like the film itself all that much. My youngest really didn’t like the found footage aspect and my oldest really didn’t like the ending. But I have to say that after talking about the thematics of Godzilla being a representation of a nuclear bomb a few weeks ago, they were interested in scouring for the theme behind the movie here and very quickly latched onto 9/11 without prompting. W for my kids. And then my daughter started looking into what King Kong represents (that’s going to be a long convo). But it’s like it’s unlocked a new dimension of film appreciation for them which is cool. Wait to they find out it’s not just kaiju that can have deeper thematic symbolism.
- "THE MOVIE FANATIC"April 10, 2026The Blair Witch Project may be my favourite found footage movie of all time...but Cloverfield is the best and my favourite found footage movie of the 21st Century. Its awesome, gripping, full of suspence & very realistic in terms of the whole look feel & vibe of the whole situation and everything that's happening. I also loved how they utilised the monster and not showing it full on in all of its glory until the end...which makes it feel earned and has us the viewers watching wanting to see more of it, which is perfect 👌 I thought how they were showing the monster in small dosages throughout, was a very sensible creative decision that ultimately enhanced my whole & overall appreciation of the film less is more and that's so 💯 true!! Cloverfield is by a landslide my 2nd favourite found footage film of all time and its right on The Blair Witch Project 1999's tail its very close...and that speaks volumes on how much I love Cloverfield and consider it a masterpiece in its own right as well because in my opinion Cloverfield is a flawless found footage film a 💯
- Rowan KrzysiakJanuary 24, 2026Even with the short run-time I still felt it slightly overstayed its welcome but saying that, to execute on such a contrivance so, so well is commendable. The rawness of the action and the intensity of its sound brings some incredible moments. It's probably the best kaijuu movie there is.
- pipanniJuly 22, 2025A 'found footage' movie with a big budget, "Cloverfield" works for me because at its heart is a romance movie. The hero is on a quest to save his loved one and nothing will divert him, not even a big monster tearing up the city. The only sour note is that the lead actor could be a whole lot more convincing, since most of the cast is.
- Joe KnappJune 15, 2025While it may be considered artistic to make a movie through a shaky hand-held camera, it can be distracting. Movies like this, and the Blair Witch Project, are difficult to sit through, especially on the big screen. That being said, this movie is essentially a modern take on Godzilla with far better special effects. I might have enjoyed this movie more if it had been filmed on an iPhone. At least that camera has Steadycam-like motion control.
